Description
Z-ACT Active Cartridge System
The ZinAmp Z-Act Phono system uses active circuitry to eliminate the effects of cable capacitance and improve the sound of your MM phono setup.
It eliminates cross-talk, response humps, phase shift, and other unwanted effects associated with MM cartridges.
The system operates on low voltage phantom power and is compatible with any standard turntable. This upgrade will significantly enhance the sound quality of your MM setup.
ZACT is an active cartridge system that offers superior phono performance. Active cartridges, such as the Phaedrus Phulx III, are increasingly popular among professional archivists and curators who require precise and noiseless needle-drops. Now, they are also becoming more prevalent in HiFi.
How Does it Work?
The ZinAmp Z-ACT Phono system consists of two parts: a small buffer-amplifier that attaches to the headshell (weighing less than 1 gram) and a ‘phantom’ power supply that connects between the turntable and phono-stage. Recording studios have used phantom power for years to power condenser microphones, as it eliminates unwanted cable effects. Z-ACT works by eliminating the effect of cable capacitance, which removes unwanted vagaries of an MM cartridge. This includes frequency-response humps, phase-shift, cross-talk, and noise. As a result, the Z-ACT system typically reduces cross-talk by 5dB, a level of performance previously associated only with a moving-coil system.
Pricing and Options
The Z-ACT package includes a detachable headshell with the Z-ACT buffer-amplifier and Phantomiser power supply installed. Please note that the cartridge within the headshell is not included. You can easily install your preferred MM cartridge into the headshell.
The standard Z-ACT system is currently priced at £449
Additional Headshell with Buffer-amp fitted: £89
Other Options:
Non-detatchable headshell? Not a problem: The Z-ACT buffer-amplifier can be fitted to most headshells or cartridges – email zact@zinamp.co.uk directly to check your make & model.
ZinAmp Phono-stage with Z-ACT Feature: Both ZinAmp phono stages are available incorporating Z-ACT as a single box solution rather than two. No additional phantom power-supply is required as this is built into the phono-stage directly. This amalgamation of the two units saves on external hardware and power supply components. This in turn brings down the overall cost down of the system as a whole.
